| Winner SIX for Freshman Sire SILVER TRAIN is SILVER SLUGGER, who earned his maiden special weight victory going six and one-half furlongs in the 3rd race at Charles Town.
Second and third in his two previous races over four and one-half furlongs, SILVER SLUGGER was right at home with the additional distance. Making sure the pace was honest early on, he was at the leader's saddlecloth early. Taking over down the backstretch, he put away the early pacesetter and was soon thereafter challenged by another. He gamely fought the length of the stretch and he would not give up his advantage, finishing a neck in front at the wire.
SILVER SLUGGER was bred in Kentucky by L. Michael Ownes and Jeanne Owens and he was produced by the Political Folly mare, Sweet Politics. |
